THE starter’s pistol has fired for the Armidale Athletics Club with news it has been successful in securing a $3,500 grant under the NSW Local Sports Grant Program to replace broken track hurdles, Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall announced today.
Mr Marshall said he was excited to deliver the good news to committee members in person this week.
“The Armidale Athletics Club is an active and busy Club with members of all ages involved from across the region,” Mr Marshall said.
“The funds will be used to replace broken track hurdles which are used widely in track and field events, including Little Athletics, at the Club’s home base of Harris Park.
“The existing hurdles are well worn, broken in places, and in urgent need of replacement.
“This is terrific news and I have no doubt the new hurdles will be well utilised by youngsters and school groups alike.”
Armidale Athletics Club President Angela Goodare said they were thrilled to receive the funding from the State Government which will be used to buy much need equipment including hurdles.
“Our old hurdles were so old we needed people to hold them up to stop them from collapsing every time the wind blew,” Ms Goodare said.
“The cost of the hurdles is upwards of $5,000 so we are very grateful to buy some new hurdles for our Athletes.
“Thank you to Adam and to the Local Sports Grant initiative that keeps non-for-profit and community clubs going.”
