MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall has today announced a $2,941,848 funding boost for Glen Innes Severn Council to continue and expand road repair and upgrade works across the region.
“This is fantastic news to kick off the new year for council and motorists through the Glen Innes district,” Mr Marshall said.
“Council is already planning how to use the additional funding with priority given to roads most in need of maintenance and repair.
“The money will be used for gravel re-sheeting, installing drainage, culverts, widening bitumen sealed sections and fixing potholes – urgently repairing the most beleaguered roads to enhance safety and usability for all road users.”
Mr Marshall said council’s local road network was 1,083 kilometres in length and the funding boost would help the bottom line with so many roads across the region requiring attention.
“While council has already secured significant roads funding, which it is currently using on several projects, this extra funding will enable council to undertake works on even more roads, benefiting residents right across the region,” he said.
Glen Innes Severn Council Mayor Rob Banham said it was fantastic to receive the road funding boost, which would be spent in areas of most need.
“We are very grateful for this untied funding to be spent over an extended period of time,” Cr Banham said.
“It gives Council every chance to be able to adapt and manage roads that require repairs urgently using this money.”
Mr Marshall said the grant was secured under the government’s new Regional Emergency Road Repair Fund.
